Pete Gallatin passed away on February 11, 2025, lovingly surrounded by his wife, Ondine, and his children, Damiana, Alana, and Leo.
A lifelong creative spirit, Pete had two passions: music and family. Growing up in Martinsville, Illinois, he was athletic and active in many school activities including basketball and baseball. He taught himself to play the guitar in his teens. Pete graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois. He earned a master’s degree in Fine Arts from Boston University, College of Fine Arts School of Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts.
As an actor and collaborator with several avant-garde theater companies, Pete’s stage performing career propelled him from Boston to Omaha to Los Angeles. Pete met Ondine through theater in Santa Cruz, California, where they began their family. After living near Pete’s parents in Ohio for five years, they returned to California and settled near Los Angeles. Pete began to seriously dedicate himself to his musical craft, adding digital software and keyboards to his guitar skills. A prolific composer, he expressed his love of storytelling by writing song lyrics, and recorded and published a library of his original music.
In 2005 the family moved to Portland, Oregon, where Pete developed a Blues repertoire and performed solo and in partnership with local musicians. Pete also enjoyed exploring natural beauty, completing home improvement projects, and sharing generously with his children. Pete is remembered for his kindness, talent, creativity, and love for his family.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Brenton “Pete” Sr. and Esther Thomas Gallatin. His older brother Tom Gallatin passed away on February 20, 2025. Pete is survived by his brother Albert “Ace” Gallatin.
